# Educators Turn to AI Despite Growing Frustration With Multiple Platforms
Two-thirds of educators now rely on artificial intelligence to fill resource shortages in their classrooms, even as they struggle with the fragmented tools cluttering their digital workdays, a new survey reveals.
Jotform released its EdTech Trends 2026 report this week, finding that 65 percent of educators deploy AI to address gaps in staffing, materials, and institutional support. Teachers use these tools to generate lesson plans, create assessments, draft communications with families, and automate administrative tasks that otherwise consume hours each week.
The adoption rate reflects a pragmatic calculation by educators facing real constraints. Many schools operate with tight budgets, limited teaching assistants, and mounting demands on classroom time. AI offers a quick workaround. Yet the same survey exposes a stubborn problem threatening this productivity gain: platform fatigue and poor system integration.
Teachers report juggling too many separate applications. A typical educator might use a learning management system like Canvas or Google Classroom, separate AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, a district grading system, attendance software, communication platforms for parent outreach, and specialized apps for specific subjects or accessibility needs. Switching between these systems eats time and fragments workflow. The cognitive load of managing passwords, learning different interfaces, and transferring data manually drains energy better spent on instruction.
This fragmentation particularly harms the teachers most stretched thin. A teacher in a rural or under-resourced district might lack access to curriculum specialists, special education coordinators, or instructional coaches. AI fills some gaps those specialists would normally cover. But without integrated systems, the teacher must manually translate AI outputs across multiple platforms, negating efficiency gains.
Jotform's findings align with broader EdTech research. A 2024 report by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) documented similar patterns. Teachers want fewer, better-connected tools rather than more applications. Integration matters more than feature richness.
Some vendors have begun responding. Platforms like Clever and ClassLink act as identity and data bridges, allowing single sign-on and simplified rostering across multiple applications. Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft 365 Education integrate AI capabilities directly into familiar tools like Docs and Forms. Districts experimenting with unified ecosystems report better adoption and less staff turnover.
The stakes extend beyond teacher convenience. When educators spend mental energy managing tools, they have less capacity for differentiation, one-on-one student interaction, and creative instruction. Students benefit when teachers work efficiently. Conversely, tool sprawl correlates with higher burnout and accelerates departures from the profession.
For district leaders, the implication is clear: adding more tools without solving integration creates the opposite of the intended effect. Before deploying new AI solutions, districts should audit existing systems, identify critical integration points, and demand interoperability from vendors before purchase. Some forward-thinking districts now include integration requirements in procurement contracts.
The EdTech Trends 2026 report suggests the field stands at an inflection point. Educators have embraced AI as a practical necessity. The next phase requires making that embrace sustainable by building connected ecosystems instead of perpetuating tool sprawl.
