Sports venues across the country are increasingly adopting facial recognition technology to streamline entry procedures and reduce wait times at gates. The systems scan attendees' faces and match them against databases to verify tickets and process admissions faster than traditional methods.

However, privacy advocates warn that venues often fail to adequately inform visitors about data collection practices. When consumers provide consent for facial data recording, they frequently lack clarity about how venues will store, use, and share that information. Attendees may not understand whether their biometric data gets retained after the game ends, sold to third parties, or used for purposes beyond ticketing.

The risks extend beyond individual privacy concerns. Facial recognition systems can misidentify people, with error rates that disproportionately affect people of color and women. A misidentified attendee could face entry delays or wrongful denial of access.
